SIX colleagues from the Midcounties Co-operative took time out from their day jobs to volunteer at Wolverley Allotments.

The colleagues from the Franche Road pharmacy and Stourport food store helped to fill new raised allotment beds with soil to ensure that disabled gardens in the Wolverley area can easily grow herbs and vegetables.

The volunteering follows on from a community grant of £1,000, which the Midcounties Co-operative recently gave to the allotment to improve disabled access on the site.

The Midcounties Co-operative’s community activity in Kidderminster is part of its commitment for members and colleagues to come together to provide impactful and sustainable support for local community groups.

Julie Duce, duty manager of the Stourport store, said: “Wolverley Allotments is a vital resource which has inclusivity at its very heart, so we are proud to have contributed to this essential work to aid accessibility for disabled people.

“This activity underpins our commitment to supporting the communities that we serve, which, as a co-operative, is one of the key pillars on which our society is based, and we will continue to work with good causes in an around the Wyre Forest area.”

Jenny Bull, chairman of the allotments, said: “Since our allotments were established last year, our aim was to be accessible to the whole community. These raised beds are vital to ensure that our disabled occupants can make the most of the amenity.

“We are grateful for the financial support of the Midcounties Co-operative, as well as the time and assistance offered by their colleagues, and look forward to our continued partnership with them.”
