A KIDDERMINSTER man who was killed after being hit by two cars, died because of the injuries he suffered in the accident, a coroner has ruled.

Martin Joseph Downs, 37, of Comberton Road, was struck and killed by the cars in Wolverly Road on Sunday, January 11, at around 6.50pm.

An inquest held by Worcestershire Coroner’s Service on Monday, May 18, ruled that Mr Downs died as a result of the accident.

The medical cause of death was listed as multiple injuries.

The incident occurred close to the junction with Sion Hill, when a Renault Megane travelling towards Wolverley, and a Peugeot 407 travelling in the opposite direction, both collided with Mr Downs.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed until 1.50am while police carried out their investigations.

Mr Downs leaves behind his fiancée, Liz Jones, who described him as “our hero”, and three daughters Demi, Caitlin, Scarlet and a son, Sam.

He first met his childhood sweetheart Liz at Hagley Catholic High School, when they were 11 years-old. They were together throughout school and reunited again aged 23 and have been engaged for the past 12 years.

She said: “He loved us dearly and was very devoted to us and our happiness. He worked as a civil engineer at a construction company and was a perfectionist in everything he did.

“He was my loveable rogue, and overall I’d like him to be remembered as a family man with a good heart and a fantastic sense of humour – always making us laugh every day.

“Words cannot describe the massive void he has left in all of our lives. We miss and love him so much.”
