PREPARATIONS for Stourport Carnival are in full swing with tug-o-war contestants and marching bands being invited to come forward and join the fun.

Organisers for the 90th annual event are inviting people to get into teams of five to show their strength in the tug-o-war contest on the carnival field. People need to be aged over 18 to take part in the battle to win a barrel of beer.

Pete Roberts, carnival committee chairman, said they were also looking for any marching bands to perform at the event, which takes place on September 5.

More entrants are being sought for the event to decide who will be this year’s carnival queen, princess and rosebud. They will be chosen at the event at the Civic Centre in Stourport on June 14.

And Mr Roberts added they were still searching for carnival queens of yesterday to help mark the 90th anniversary of the event. They will be part of an open top bus parade during the carnival.

Anyone wishing to get involved with the carnival or to have a float or trade stall at the carnival can contact Mr Roberts at Pete’s Prints in Bridge Street, Stourport or by calling 01299 879340.
