RESIDENTS at a Stourport care home were yellow but not mellow when they enjoyed a fruity Friday to support cancer prevention.

There was an appealing variety of exotic fruits on offer at Ravenhurst Residential Care Home, in Lickhill Road North, on Friday, May 15, when the team and residents made sure they got more than their five a day to raise awareness of the World Cancer Research Fund UK’s ‘Get Fruity’ campaign.

The home was a sea of bright colours when the team and residents dug out their brightest coloured clothing and enjoyed generous helpings of delicious fruit, including lychees, star fruit, pomegranate, kiwi and passion fruit.

Resident Connie Barnes said: “I had fun tasting all the different fruits.

"My favourite was the watermelon."

The team also donated £1 each to support the World Cancer Research Fund UK’s annual fundraising drive.

Harley Wright, activities assistant at the home, said: “Everybody really enjoyed our fruity Friday, it was a lot of fun.

“We did a huge fruit platter and our residents were really adventurous about trying new fruits.

“Many had never tried a papaya before, but they all really liked this and the watermelon, they didn’t like the physalis though, they thought it was really sour.”

Get Fruity events see people across the country hold fruit-themed events and activities to raise money for cancer prevention and raise awareness of the nutritional benefit of a healthy diet as a simple step to reduce the risk of developing cancer.
