MIDLANDS motorcycle riders are being offered the chance to get on board for emergency incident training.

West Midlands Fire Service is hosting a series of courses called Biker Down during June, which will give riders instruction in how to deal with injuries and keeping a scene safe until emergency services arrive.

Courses will take place at fire stations in the Birmingham area, the three-hour sessions are free and on completion participants will receive a certificate and a first-aid kit.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: “Every year we attend large numbers of road traffic collisions involving motorcycles and scooters and with riders who will have been trapped, seriously injured or killed.

“If you were first on the scene following a motorcycle accident would you know what to do? As bikers tend to ride in groups or pairs, it is usually the case that when one is involved in an accident the first person on the scene will be a fellow biker.”
