FORMER Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has claimed he was offered a sensational return to the hit show, days after his former job was given to Chris Evans.

The journalist, axed in March for punching producer Oisin Tymon in a row over a steak dinner, told the Sun he met an unnamed BBC executive last week before Evans, 49, was unveiled as the new host.

But he said that he turned it down because of what had happened since his departure, including being compared to paedophile DJ Jimmy Savile.

Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy have signed up for director Paul Feig’s reboot, which is due out next year.

Emma, 26, who starred in The Amazing Spider-Man and the sequel, told The Wall Street Journal that she did not want to commit to another big franchise.

Saturdays star Rochelle Humes could be vying for viewers with her husband, The Voice host Marvin Humes, after she signed on to present The X Factor’s spin-off show.

The singer will join Kiss FM DJ Melvin Odoom on ITV2′s The Xtra Factor this autumn.

Her husband, who shot to fame on The X Factor as part of boyband JLS, took over co-hosting duties on its BBC rival The Voice last year.

Eager readers have got their hands on the latest instalment of EL James’ sadomasochistic Fifty Shades Of Grey saga after it was published on Kindle before bookshops opened.

The new book, called Grey, is a re-telling of the first novel in the hit series about an affair between mysterious tycoon Christian Grey and lover Anastasia Steele, from the point of view of its title character.

The book comes after Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson starred in the Fifty Shades Of Grey movie.
