Festival fans are aiming to give the Glastonbury treatment to their home village of Hagley, which is gearing up for its own feast of rock and pop.

Organisers of Hagfest are keeping their fingers crossed that the heatwave lasts until Saturday (July 4), when the village playing fields will host a line-up of 11 acts.

Other attractions include a "kids active" zone, activity tents, general stalls, beer and Pimms tents, as well as a variety of refreshment stands.

"Quite a few local people have been at the Glastonbury festival and they have posted on Facebook that they aim to bring a bit of that atmosphere to us," said Fran Evans, leader of the Hagfest Committee.

"The sunshine has brought a feel-good effect and we are hoping that the warm weather holds on for our event."

Among the performers will be Danny Dearden, a singer/songwriter who made it through to Mel B's Judges house in last year's X Factor and narrowly missed out on getting to the final.

The programme should have something to suit all tastes, with blues, rock, ska and soul featuring in the programme.

The event, running from noon until 8pm at the Worcester Road playing fields, kicks off with Hagley Primary School Choir singing a repertoire of VE Day songs to bring a touch of nostalgia.

They will follow up by belting out Rocking All Over the World to launch into the rest of the line-up.

Modern rock comes next, at 12.30pm, with Duchess playing numbers from the Chillies and Eric Clapton - and a bit of Aerosmith thrown into the mix.

Danny Dearden, who has been touring UK schools giving advice about cyber bullying, is on at 1.15pm, followed by Stourbridge's Rock Choir, which also features its singers from Bromsgrove, Kidderminster and Redditch.

The Blue Eyed Beggars blues-rock trio, from Stourbridge, are on at 2.45pm, followed by "sultry songstress" Vanessa Lee, who is said to be a cross between Amy Winehouse and Carmen Miranda at 3.30pm.

Bryn Teeling (correct), whose musical influences are Crowded House, the Beatles and Fleetwood Mac, plays acoustic, bass and electric guitar at 4.15pm and The Terrapins, who are inspired by the likes of Bob Dylan, are on at 5pm.

The Supers ska band is on stage at 5.45pm, with Bewdley-based Tale Lights harmonic acoustic duo at 6.30pm.

The Spacehoppers will step up at 7.15pm to draw the festival to a close by keeping "the party bouncing".

Mrs Evans said her team of organisers hoped to attract a crowd of around 1,000 to the event - with an aim of raising £10,000 to launch a fund to build a new community centre in Hagley.

Stourbridge's Base Studios has helped to set up the event by finding the acts and Mrs Evans said organisations, residents and businesses in the area had provided support.

Early bird tickets are available online at www.hagfest.co.uk at £10 for an adult £5 per child or £25 for a family ticket with three children.

Tickets are also on sale at Spar, Lily Blue and Hagley Village Stores.

Organisers have appealed to as many people as possible to walk to the event as no special parking is provided for it.
