KEMP’S volunteer-led Spennells shop has won first place in the hospice's recent competition to crown a ‘Top Shop’.

The recent competition saw all six Kemp Hospice shops rate each other on their overall shopper appeal.

Lynne Jones, head of retail for Kemp, said: “In order to continue to improve our customer service and shop standards, our retail managers each reviewed each other’s shops scoring things such as window displays, good use of retail space and overall shopper appeal.

“Kemp’s Spennells store was selected the overall winner, securing first place, which a real credit to the whole team, as it is also predominately operated with a team of volunteers.

“We were delighted for them that their enthusiasm, team spirit and the pride they have in their shop was reflected in this result; it’s a little gem of a shop and a definite must visit.”

Kemp Hospice needs to raise £940,000 annually, with the majority of funding coming from voluntary donations and the support of the local community and the money raised through their local network of retail shops, located in Stourport, Bewdley and Spennells, and Oxford Street, Coventry Street and Lisle Avenue in Kidderminster.

Supporting local people, the service provided by Kemp is delivered by a skilled clinical team and free of charge.

Celia Evans, Kemp’s volunteer team leader, said: “When people take the time to come and find us, they are always amazed by our Spennells shop.

“We are tucked away slightly, just behind Tesco on the estate, but once found our shoppers just keep coming back time and time again.

“We were thrilled to come as ‘Top Shop’ as everyone works really hard.

“We all want to make as much money as possible to support our hospice, Kemp.”
