EMMA Thompson has spoken out about ageism and opportunities for women in the acting industry.

The 56-year-old actress’ latest role sees her playing a 77-year-old prostitute in The Legend Of Barney Thomson.

The Nanny McPhee star spoke to Radio Times, saying of the current status quo: “I think it’s still completely s**t, actually.

“I don’t think there’s any appreciable improvement and I think that, for women, the question of how they are supposed to look is worse than it was even when I was young.

“So, no, I am not impressed, at all.”

The Little Britain star, who is a judge on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent alongside Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden, told the Radio Times he’s more of a collaborator when it comes to work, saying: “I don’t particularly like working on my own.

“I’m not a stand-up comedian, but I’ve worked with people who are great stand-ups, and you quickly realise that they’re extremely self-sufficient – they don’t really need you to be funny.”

The TV funnyman will be starring in BBC One’s Agatha Christie drama adaptation titled Partners In Crime with Jessica Raine of Call The Midwife fame. He is also an executive producer on the show.

For the soap fans, Coronation Street has unveiled the actors who will be joining Shayne Ward on the cobbles as his on-screen father and sister.

The X Factor winner was cast as Aidan Connor, a cousin of barmaid Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) in May, and recently began shooting his first scenes.

It has now been announced that Prime Suspect star Richard Hawley has been cast as his father Johnny Connor, while West End musical actress Faye Brookes will play Aidan’s sister Kate.

Aidan arrives in Weatherfield next month to help out old friend Carla Connor, (Alison King) after he gets a call from his cousin Michelle, (Kym Marsh).

Johnny and Kate will join him on the cobbles in September.

It turns out Daniel Radcliffe is as good with a microphone as a wand, as he took to the stage at a Californian karaoke club to perform Eminem’s hit The Real Slim Shady.

The Harry Potter star displayed his fast rapping skills while actress girlfriend Erin Darke bopped alongside and joined him for the chorus.

The 25-year-old gave a confident rendition of the hit single, gaining the room’s attention with the song’s first line: “May I have your attention please?”

The couple, who have been dating since 2012, were enjoying a night out together at Cameron’s Pub in Half Moon Bay, California.
