A PETITION to save Kidderminster Territorial Army Centre (TAC) from closure has been presented to the defence minister responsible.

MP Mark Garnier handed the 1,000-signature strong petition, championed by Wyre Forest Labour-group leader Councillor Nigel Knowles to the Minister for Reserves Julian Brazier MP.

The petition calls on the Government to reverse their plans for the closure of Kidderminster TAC.

All TA centres with less than 28 members are under threat of closure, as part of the review being run by the Deputy Commander of Land Forces (Reserves) Major-General Ranald Munro, The Shrubbery TAC in Kidderminster currently has just 24 members.

Mr Garnier met with the minister to discuss the impact of the closure on those who use it and to hand over the petition. Mr Brazier assured Mr Garnier that he would personally take the issue to review.

Mr Garnier said “Having met with Mr Brazier, I feel we are giving the reservist centre the best opportunity possible to be kept open.

“By getting the closure referred to Major-General Munro we are using all resources possible to prevent this closure. I would like to thank Councillor Knowles for his efforts on the issue and to all those who signed the petition.”
