A DEDICATED Kidderminster Rotarian and scout leader who sadly passed away is to be honoured with a memorial.

Kidderminster Rotary Club has donated £500 for an archery shelter to be built at the district scouts’ outdoor centre in Bewdley in memory of David Pagett.

Mr Pagett died in April, following an illness, and his devastated fellow Rotarians said they wanted to honour him for all the work he did in the community with a project to benefit Kidderminster and District Scouts.

He was a Rotary Club member for 24 years, working as both an organiser and volunteer. He served as president in 1998-99 and was later awarded the honour of becoming a Paul Harris Fellow for services to the community.

As a scouter, he progressed through the ranks to District Commissioner and Assistant DC – posts he held for a total of 12 years.

His wife Madeline said: “I would like to thank members of the Rotary Club for their friendship and support given to David, and also to our family since his departure.”

Rotarian Mervyn Silcox said: “There was always a smile even on his darkest days, those days when Madeline and family brought him through bouts of severe illness.

“His organising ability was fantastic – as both Scouts and Rotarians know too well. At Abbeyfield House on the Birmingham Road, no-one could have looked after the paying guests any better; he sorted out problems with a shrug and a smile.”

Councillor Marcus Hart, Chairman of Kidderminster and District Scout Council, said: “At present those scouts and guides learning Archery have to practice outside in all weathers.

“This donation will go a long way towards meeting the costs of a new “Archery Shelter” to be built at the scouting outward bound centre at Rhydd Covert in 2016.”
