A NEW disabled area at a Stourport allotment was officially unveiled during an annual show and open day.

Stourport Mayor Councillor Cliff Brewer opened the disabled area and toilets at Areley Kings Allotments during the event on Saturday (August 22).

The new facilities, built and organised by Areley Kings Allotment Association, consists of raised beds, accessible to wheelchair users, surrounded by concrete paths and a seating area.

The project has been funded by local businesses and grants from local councillors, along with donations from local people.

Association chairman, Jacqui Worrall said: "The area has been built by members of the Areley Kings allotment association, and taken a year to complete.

“It has been a lot of hard work for those involved and I'd like to thank all those that have given their time and energy to the project. I think it looks fantastic."

Mrs Worrall added that the annual show proved to be a great success with good attendance and more people submitting exhibits to the show.

The children’s section was won by Teagan Wheatcroft, with her vegetable animal while Sylvia Bennett won the ‘specimen rose’ class.

John Whittle came first with his 'four types of vegetables displayed in a box'. There were also sections for baking and preserves, where Phill Rudge won for his Josta jam.

The Association is also looking for funding for their next projects and anyone who can help can contact Mrs Worrall on 01299 823742.
