A NEW funding programme which will support and enhance local assets in the area has been established by Wyre Forest District Council.

The Localism Fund offers financial support to local community groups who are looking to take over local services and assets so they can be run more effectively.

Examples of services and assets already transferred to local community groups include public conveniences, football pitches, allotments, Lickhill Community Centre and the Civic Centre in Stourport.

The scheme also supports community organisations to provide additional services in their areas through grant funding. A total of £25,000 is available in the fund for 2015/16.

Linda Collis, director for community well-being and environment at the district council, said: “The council is committed to pursuing the Localism Agenda.

“We would like to work alongside local community groups to ensure local assets are maintained as best as possible in the interest of the local community.

“I would like to urge groups to contact parish council’s or organisations who have already undertaken services as part of the Localism agenda to find out about their experience.”
