A CHARITY that provides services and care for people with brain injury has moved its Stourport Day Opportunities Centre to Kidderminster in the hopes of reaching more of those in need.

After being based at its previous location for more than a decade, it was a bittersweet leaving party for staff, volunteers and service users at the now vacated Stourport site.

The new day centre at Simply Limitless, in Puxton Lane, a wellbeing centre for the Wyre Forest formed in 2011, opened its doors today (September 1), and Lucy Page, the day centre manager, said h charity was looking forward to a fresh start in the town.

She said: "Everyone who we have met at Simply Limitless has been welcoming, informative and very positive about our future at the new premises. It’s a great start for me as we are taking this journey together, as I am also new to the service."

After marking the event through a leaving party at the Stourport centre, more than 30 service users who have suffered brain injuries, will use new facilities to support their rehabilitation process, through activities that stimulate mental, social and physical recovery through re-learning skills that were lost during their incidents.

Charity director Mel Akers said: “Although we are sad to be leaving our old centre in Stourport, we are pleased to say that Simply Limitless have a whole range of activities for young and old. I am sure our service users will join in. I was very tempted by the over 55’s weekly football.

"We have always provided our services in Kidderminster but now we actually have a day centre there and everything is a lot smoother for the clients, especially when it comes to logistics”.

The day centre clients, volunteers and staff have had a few successes to celebrate lately, such as the participation in the Kidderminster Arts Festival with Sir Roland Hill’s cloak and the 25 years anniversary of the charity.

The new location will serve as a hub for the outreach team who cover all of north Worcestershire and provide care and support to people with brain injury within their home or community.
