ACROSS Wyre Forest kettles were brewing and cakes had been baked to support Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s flagship fundraising event and was this year celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Wilden All Saints CE Primary School, in Stourport, held their coffee morning on Friday and raised £265 for the charity.

Sarah Kay, school secretary, said: “The children were invited to wear something Macmillan green or purple and the parents enjoyed coffee and cake.

“Donations amounted to more than £250.”

Staff at Brockway Carpets raised just under £300 for Macmillan, while Areley House care home, in Stourport, raised £100.

Marks and Spencer's store in Kidderminster raised £1,901 after a successful month-long fundraising campaign.

Shoppers were out in force to support the cause, joining an estimated five million people across the UK who are participated in coffee mornings for Macmillan. Employees at the store also donned green Macmillan t-shirts and completed a static bike challenge, all in aid of the charity.

Tom Simpson, store manager, said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to all our customers for helping us to raise funds for World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

"With it being the event's 25th anniversary, this year had added significance, so we are delighted to have raised such a fantastic amount for what is an incredibly impressive and worth charity.

"We will be continuing to raise funds until the end of September, so if you didn't make it along to our coffee morning, there is still an opportunity to pop in and treat yourself to a coffee and cake to help towards our final fundraising total."

An annual coffee morning held at Bewdley Rowing Club, organised by Carol Gittins, raised £240 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mrs Gittins said: “I would like to thank the Rowing Club for allowing the use of their premises, my friends who helped on the day and those who donated cakes and raffle prizes.

“This is the 14th year I have organised a coffee morning for Macmillan and I could not have done it without the help and support of my friends.”
