THIS year marks the 28th year for Bewdley’s Art Festival and will see the town go quackers with community decorated duck houses.

A first for this year, is the introduction of a Community Arts Project designed to actively involve the local community.

Thanks to a grant from the Kidderminster Educational Foundation and the support of Bewdley Town Council and the Emily Jordan Foundation, simply designed, plain duck houses have been produced and have been made available to local groups, organisations and businesses for decoration on a theme of their choice.

Thirty-two of these duck houses have been issued to groups, organisations and businesses who have been busy decorating them ready for Bewdley Festival.

Colin Hill, Bewdley Festival’s art co-ordinator, who came up with the idea, said: “The community have really taken this initiative to their hearts and, having seen some of the early completions, all the indications are we are in for a treat.”

The decorated duck houses will go on display in the form of a trail in the town’s Jubilee Gardens throughout October.

Leaflets will be available showing which duck house belongs to which organisation, with an opportunity for visitors to choose and vote for their favourite.
