A MAN was arrested for interfering with the arrest of a man he did not know in Kidderminster, a court heard.

Christopher Cole swore at police officers trying to detain a man on a matter completely unknown and unconnected to him on September 4, prosecutor Leslie Ashton said.

"The defendant was in Kidderminster and the police were there arresting a man completely unconnected, but then he decided to involved himself by commenting to the man that was being detained," she said.

"He asked for a mobile phone. The officers said this was not possible, and he swore and shouted at them. He was told to leave, but he couldn't keep quiet about the previous incident and kept swearing at the officers. They told him to stop swearing and go away, but he didn't and was arrested."

In mitigation, the court was told the 45-year-old denied trying to retrieve a mobile phone and was simply trying to walk past the incident on the street but the police would not allow him to.

Cole, of Harold Evers Way, Kidderminster, pleaded guilty to using threatening or abusive words, behaviour or disorderly behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress when he appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, September 24.

Chairman of the magistrates, Richard Packer, fined him £80 and also imposed further financial penalties from the court, including a £150 court charge, £85 in prosecution costs, and a £20 victim surcharge, making a total of £335.
