A VERY special milestone was reached at a Bewdley care home when a resident celebrated her 105th birthday with some very special guests.

Violet Jackson turned 105 on Monday, November 9, and besides receiving a birthday card from her majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Mayor of Bewdley, Councillor Calne Edginton-White dropped by to personally wish her all the best.

The children from St Anne’s Primary School in Bewdley also came to entertain Violet with some lively hymns for her special day.

Violet, who originally hailed from London before moving to Bewdley's Hernes Nest House, worked in her father’s leather shop as a sales assistant and had a good eye for window dressing. She enjoys music, and used to play the piano and organ and attended the Methodist Church where she played the organ every Sunday. She married her husband Jack in 1934, whom she met when they were both members of the Holiday Fellowship and Rambling Association and they have two daughters. She moved to Kidderminster in 2002 and in 2006 moved in to the care home.

Veronica Pereira, manager of Hernes Nest House, said: "Violet has so much energy for a centenarian. She walks about with her frame instead of calling for assistance. She still enjoys music, be it performances from singers, or just listening to music with head phones. She is just simply amazing."
