MAJOR disruption was caused to the M5 northbound this morning (November 28) after the outbreak of a serious fire at Frankley services.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Bromsgrove Fire Station were called to the fire at about 9.40am.

The fire at the M5 services, located between J3 (Halesowen) and J4 (Lydiate Ash) caused tailbacks along the northbound carriageway and also caused the southbound service area to be closed until noon.

Crews were able to put out the fire at about 1.40pm this afternoon after using breathing apparatus and co2 extinguishers.

They were assisted by Western Power Distribution to isolate the electrical supply.

Motorists are being advised to use the next available services, which are Hopwood (M42 J2) or Hilton Park (M6 J11).
