VOTERS in Stourport are being reminded that the are due to go back to the polls in two weeks to fill a vacancy on Worcestershire County Council.

The by-election on Thursday, December 17, comes after the death of Councillor Jim Parish, who had been a county councillor for a number of years.

All households have been canvassed in recent months to confirm that eligible people are registered to vote.

Polling stations will be open between 7am and 10pm and details of the polling stations will be printed on the poll cards.

However, there is one change from the polling stations used in May. Because Areley Kings Village Hall is not available, temporary alternative arrangements have been made for this election and electors in Areley Kings will vote at St Bartholomew’s Church of England Primary School and Nursery, Princess Way.

Simon Mallinson, returning officer for Worcestershire County Council, said: "After the sad passing of Cllr Parish, the residents of the Stourport division need to elect a new county councillor to represent their interests at Worcestershire County Council. We are looking forward to the current vacant seat being filled through the election and to working with the new councillor."

Ian Miller, deputy returning officer, said: “We know this by-election comes at a time when everyone is busy in the run up to Christmas, but it is important that people in the Stourport Division use their vote. We would urge them to make sure they are on Electoral Register.”

Residents in Stourport can check if their name is on the Register of Electors by calling the Elections Team on 01562 732733.
