DEDICATED children and staff at a Kidderminster primary school have launched a fund to raise money for a new library.

Foley Park Community Primary, in Northumberland Avenue, has set itself a target of £12,000 to create a new library space to replace its small and cramped current area.

Pupils, parents and staff at the school have been busy raising money to kick-start the appeal with more events lined up.

The nearby Tesco Express donated cakes for a cake sale which helped raised £120 while further funds have come from the school stationary shop and the ‘Friends’ group.

Lyndsey Roberts, the Literacy co-ordinator said: "We have been keen to create a better reading environment for some time now.

“The library area, as it stands, is a collection of shelves and hardback benches and chairs. We all know the magic of losing yourself in a good book.

“Having an environment which is both cosy and comfortable is important for that and we hope to pass on our love for books to the children.

“Setting patterns for learning is very important and we want our children to learn the value of books and read for pleasure in later life, as well as understanding that it's an essential life skill."

The school’s PTA is holding their Christmas Fayre on Friday (December 11) with all proceeds going toward the Library fund.

Miss Roberts added that the fund is also being supported by businesses in the area but are still looking for help and contributions to the appeal. Anyone who can help is asked to contact the school on 01562 823857.
