RAISING 50 per cent more in donations than last year's event, the annual Boxing Day Tractor Run has been hailed a success for 2015.

Having gathered £1,260 in donations this year, £470 more than last year, organiser Ray Attwood said it was a great day for all involved.

He said: "We had a great day - the weather held for us, we had about 50 tractors turn up, and we lad a nice ride through the Wyre Forest."

In aid of Kidderminster and District Prostate Cancer Support Group, around 50 old and new farm vehicles from all over Worcestershire gathered at the Far Forest Society Showground, in Callow Hill, at 10am, before trundling their way along through the Wyre Forest to Bewdley and back again.

Mr Attwood, who has bee running the event for five years, said the annual ride was set to continue for many more years.

"We try to run it every year for the Prostate Group in Kidderminster because they do a great job," he said.

"I want to say a big thanks to the Forestry Commission and Natural England who let us go through the forest this time because we were running out of routes and this way we were able to go off road without getting mud everywhere."

The money raised at the tractor run will go towards the group’s supported appeal of funding a new surgical robot at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The new technology, which costs £1.6 million, will allow surgeons to remove tumours with more precision rather than through open surgery so patients can benefit from less pain, minimal blood loss, quicker recovery times and reduced complications.
