SWIMMERS across Wyre Forest will be looking to make a splash next month and raise much-needed funds for good causes.

Wyre Forest Glades Leisure Centre in Kidderminster and Stourport Sports Centre will be taking on the Swimathon challenge for Sainsbury’s Sport Relief.

They are now encouraging swimmers from across the district to join in as teams or as individuals in the event, which will take place between Friday, March 18 and Sunday, March 20.

Swimathon will take place in more than 600 pools across the UK with organisers hoping to beat the £2.6 million raised at the last event in 2014.

Participants can choose from 1.5k, 2.5k or 5k individual distances while teams can form relays to tackle the 1.5k and 5k distances.

Stuart Booton, general manager of Wyre Forest Glades, said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Swimathon is a fantastic way to bring our community together, while providing ample opportunity to get fit and healthy in the pool.

“Wyre Forest residents can take the plunge themselves at either site, along with family and friends to complete a swimming challenge of their choice, be it 1.5k or 5k, all while raising funds for those in need.”
