KIDDERMINSTER Town Council has announced the recommended candidate for appointment as its first clerk and responsible financial officer.

At its meeting on Wednesday, February 10, the council is being asked formally to ratify the appointment of Tony Beirne, who is currently the town clerk and responsible financial officer at Tewkesbury Town Council.

The Mayor of Kidderminster, Councillor Rose Bishop – who chaired the staffing committee which carried out the recruitment process – said: “We were pleased that there was such a strong field of candidates who were interested in coming to work for the town council.

“Tony Beirne has a wealth of local government experience in both town councils and principal authorities, and I am delighted that we have been able to attract someone of his calibre to be the first clerk of Kidderminster Town Council.

“I am looking forward to working with him in the remaining months of my Mayoralty in the run up to the elections in May.”

Mr Beirne added: “I am delighted to be offered the role.

“This is a rare and exciting opportunity, and I am looking forward to starting in the job and meeting and working with town councillors, local organisations, businesses and those interested in future of the town."

Subject to the ratification process, Mr Beirne is expected to start in the role mid-March.
