BEWDLEY Town manager Phil Mullen believes it will cost £50,000 to fix the drainage problems which have plagued the pitch at their Ribbesford Meadow home.

Town are working with the Worcestershire FA on applying for grants which will help pay for the extensive work.

The club have not played at home since October 31 and the lack of drainage is a perennial problem for Bewdley.

However, a report from the Institute of Groundsmen about the playing surface supported the club’s own arguments.

Mullen said: “It’s going to take about £50,000 to fix the problems on the pitch in the long term. But we’ve had the specialist report back and say that the work we did last summer is the way forward."

“We’ve received three tenders and they’ll they are all around the £50,000 mark.

“If we can do that all the way around the pitch then the issue will be fixed and we’ll have one of the best pitches around.”

Town saw Saturday’s home clash against Tipton Town called off because of a waterlogged ground.

Games on the Meadow against Stone Old Alleynians on Tuesday (7.45pm ko) and Pegaus Juniors on February 13 also look doubtful.
