QUIZZES, cream teas and steam train rides are all on offer this February half term, as the Severn Valley Railway launches its 2016 season.

The SVR is now finishing off its winter maintenance programme and getting ready for Saturday (February 13) when it re-opens for the half term holiday and its 2016 weekend running service launches.

Fully fired-up and ready, the railway’s much-loved collection of heritage steam trains will be taking visitors on trips up and down the line throughout the holiday, enabling passengers to hop on and off to explore any of the six historic stations en-route.

Eagle-eyed children can pick up a quiz sheet at station booking offices and take part in a fun “I spy” quiz during their journey and families can take a ride on the Coalyard Miniature Railway – which will be open at Kidderminster, weather permitting.

Visitors who would like to indulge themselves during their visit can enjoy a fresh cream tea while enjoying the views of the Severn Valley as they travel along the line in the SVR’s popular Observation Saloon. The cream tea service runs at 10.30am and 2.25pm on Wednesday, February 17, and booking is strongly recommended.

Clare Gibbard, marketing and communications manager, said: “We are thoroughly looking forward to launching our 2016 season this half term.

“Our staff and volunteers have been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that we are ready to welcome all our visitors with an intensive service of steam trains as well as fun extras like our children’s quiz and our indulgent cream tea service.”
