WYRE Forest Historical Research Group held their latest History Day last weekend, looking back at the district’s past.
The all-day event was held at in the Kidderminster Corn Exchange on Saturday, April 16, and more 60 people attended the event.
Attendees were treated to displays of memorabilia by guest speakers alongside past and present research projects undertaken by the group and a special section devoted First World War memorabilia.
The theme of the day was Wyre Forest in 20th century and speakers included Peter Picken, Bob Fleming, Rosemary Winnall MBE, Dave Laverty and John Pearsall.
The group’s fourth History Day was opened by former Wyre Forest MP, Dr Richard Taylor, and the guest speakers spoke on a variety of topics including policing and firefighting in the 20th century, life in the Kidderminster Mayor’s office and the diaries of Private Walter Willetts written during the First World War.
Norman Broadfield, group chairman, said: “We were delighted with the atmosphere on Saturday, with Dr Richard Taylor in top form and five excellent speakers in front of a large audience.
“A first-class day.”
