STOURPORT’S new mayor has said he is honoured to have been elected for the second time in three years.

Ken Henderson took over the role from Cliff Brewer following the Annual Town Council meeting held on Thursday, May 19.

Cllr Henderson's wife, Lin, will be his Mayoress for the year.

He said: “I am honoured to have been elected as Stourport Mayor for the second time in three years.

“As I was born in Stourport in 1949 and have lived in the town ever since, I welcome my appointment as especially honourable.

“My wife, Lin, and I enjoyed a very memorable year as Mayor and Mayoress in 2013/2014 and we hope to experience the same this forthcoming municipal year.

“I know there are some problems in Stourport as with any other town or city that need addressing, so I intend to address them the best I can. I look at Stourport as a long-time resident and can say that there is a significant change for the better, but there is still more to do.

“Cleanliness is my top priority, with toilet facilities high on the list along with street cleaning and highway issues. I consider myself to be a realist and tackle problems I know I have a good chance of achieving.”

Councillor Henderson will raise funds the Midlands Air Ambulance and the local RSPCA during his mayoral year.

He added: “During my last year as Mayor I managed to raise more than £5,000, and would love to beat that, but would be happy with whatever I can achieve.”

During the meeting, Councillor Vi Higgs was also elected as Deputy Mayor.
