SNOOKER prodigy Taylor Fish has been called up to represent the national team’s under-16s by the England Association of Snooker and Billiards (EASB) after he clinched his first ever title.

The 15-year-old is set to take on the best young players from Scotland, Wales and Ireland in Leeds this August.

His selection is in recognition of a brilliant season which culminated with him sealing the under-16s English title last week.

Fish, who is from Kidderminster and is a member of Pockets Snooker Club, came through the West Midlands section and battled through the last 16 to set up a final clash against Landywood’s Jack Harris, who was already an occasional training partner.

Fish emerged triumphant 6-2 at CueBall Snooker Club in Derbyshire.

The victory was a sign of how much the young player had matured in recent years.

Alan Turner from Pockets said: “Taylor has done brilliantly to win this title. I don’t see any reason why he can’t go on to be a professional if he can stay focused because he has bags of potential.”

He added: “It was close early on but Taylor managed to get ahead and never looked back.”

Fish is a student at King Charles High School and is coached by Kevin Franklin. The teen has been in excellent form all year, scoring two 147s in February. He also reached the quarter-finals of the Europan under-17s in Malta, before coming though the last 16 qualifying competition in Leeds for the nationals.
