BONNIE Deeming-Lane took gold at the Samurai Judo Club’s open Junior Championships, held at their Zortech Avenue premises and with around 20 other teams taking part.

The third of four sisters – all doing judo and all with gold medals under their belts already – Bonnie had been training very hard on the mat and on the day won a series of contests with some impressive skills.

Elder sister Lily won silver in the higher grades category, where Bonnie also took bronze.

There were also silvers for Lola Grosvenor and Maddi Haywood in the girls, and Harley White and Luke Mole in the boys.

Katy Jennings and Alannah Martin both took bronze in the girls, while Spencer Benton and Jack Walker both fought well in the higher grades section to win bronzes for the boys.

In the senior grades, Hetty Tinsdale, 15, led the way by being promoted to senior brown belt, while Olivia Turner, Ellie Arnull and Toni Poulsom joined the fourth and eldest Deeming-Lane sister, Sophie, on senior blue belt.

Several of the older adult men were promoted as well, with Ryan Killworth and Rob Starbuck both moving to senior orange and Anthony Haywood gaining his red belt, the first senior grade. Jamie Sargent went to senior yellow belt.

In the junior grades, Lucas Kent led the way to blue belt, while James Hemer and Ellie McAteer, along with Ellie’s older brother Jake, went to middle green.

Spencer went to top orange belt, with Dillon Walker and Dan Hickinbottom going to middle orange.

and Martin Allen and Bonnie Deeming-Lane both being promoted to orange belt.
