A PAIR of big-hearted Wyre Forest aid volunteers are showing a video of their experiences helping African orphans.

Bernadette Munnelly, of Stourport and Annie Austin, of Button Oak, travelled to Kenya to aid orphans and villagers in January.

Mrs Austin, 64, said: "Bernadette and myself went to Kosele and we are showing a film of experiences there, where we built a mud hut for some of the villagers."

Her month-long trip was arranged through Redditch-based charity, the Hope and Kindness Ministry, with both women helping to feed and care for the village orphanage's 32 children.

Since returning to Wyre Forest the pair have been raising money and collecting clothing and bedding which will be sent to the orphans later in the year.

Mrs Austin, who lives off Button Bridge Lane, added: "We have managed to get enough money to buy a field on which we intend to build four classrooms.

"I also took 120 teddy bears out to the children which had been knitted for us by OAPs in Wyre Forest."

More than £1,400 per month is needed for buying food and medicines for villagers, covering the orphanages running costs.

The video is showing at Bewdley's Riverside Church, Dog Lane, on Monday, July 2, from 7.30pm.

Proceeds from the entrance fee and authentic Kenyan jewellery and canvas paintings - known as Batiks - on sale at the event will go towards the fund-raising appeal.
