Residents living near Kidderminster Hospital have been left without water today due to a burst pipe.

Water has been gushing out on the busy Bewdley Road, near the entrance to the hospital, this afternoon (Saturday, December 3) at around 3pm.

Severn Trent said people from around 20 properties had reported they had experienced a loss of supply as a result of the fault, although the hospital is not thought to be affected.

Shuttle readers said the water was causing damage to the pavement and creating a deep pool in the road.

Some reported that properties in nearby Park Street, Wood Street, Habberley Street, Woodfield Street and the surrounding area also suffered a loss of water.

Severn Trent engineers are currently on site and are working to resolve the issue. Temporary traffic lights have been put in place to enable them to carry out the work safely.

A spokesman for the company said: “The burst pipe is by the entrance to Kidderminster Hospital on Bewdley Road.

“We have had around 20 calls from people saying their water has gone off, which is very unfortunate.

“Our engineers are on their way to the site and will work to fix the problem and get everyone reconnected as soon as possible. We expect everyone will be back on tonight.”

They added that engineers will work "around the clock" to fix the burst main.

"We’re sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing as we know how difficult it is to have no water, especially on a Saturday afternoon and evening when you may be starting to prepare your evening meals."
