A MAN suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a car in Stourport on Tuesday afternoon.

West Mercia Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service were called to Worcester Street - near to the traffic lights - at around 4.20pm on Tuesday (December 6), to reports of a man being hit by a silver Vauxhall Zafira.

The pedestrian, a man in his 50s, suffered serious injuries to his head, leg and chest and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, for treatment.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail until January.

A WMAS spokesman said: "On arrival at the scene crews discovered a man, believed to be in his 50s, with a severely reduced level of consciousness.

"He was treated for multiple serious injuries, including to his head, chest and legs. In order to stabilise his condition, he was anaesthetised at the scene.

"He was then taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, in Birmingham, with the MERIT doctor travelling on the ambulance to continue treatment en-route.

"The driver of the car, a man believed to be in his 30s, was treated for rib and head pain and taken to Worcester Royal Hospital." 

Two ambulances, a community paramedic in a rapid response vehicle, a senior paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulance crew, from Strensham, attended the scene.

West Mercia Police investigating officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about how it happened.
