RESCUE workers from Wyre Forest are on standby to assist with the east coast flooding.

Severn Area Rescue Association (SARA), which is based at Kidderminster fire station, are on standy to support areas along the east coast.

A post on their 'Severn Area Rescue Association - Wyre Forest Station' Facebook page last night (January 12) said: "Tonight SARA are preparing for an imminent call out for the east coast flooding.

"We are on standby for national flooding to support and affect rescues anywhere in the UK.

"Our team have prepared everything and are now resting in readiness for a call out later on."

The Environment Agency, which says high tides and strong winds could lead to flooding, has issued severe flood warnings along the east coast - meaning danger to life.

Evacuations are under way in Jaywick, Essex, and Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

SARA are all on-call volunteers and are available 24 hours a day, seven-days a week have a fully equipped flood rescue response unit, which is available 365 days a year and ready to respond to local and national flooding.
