THE new Wyre Forest Leisure Centre will be doing its bit to support people living with dementia after signing up to an initiative.

Staff at the facility have undertaken training and have become ‘Dementia Friends’ which equips them to help people living with the condition.

The centre has also signed up to the Kidderminster Dementia Action Alliance, helps to support local businesses and organisations to find ways in which they can become more dementia friendly.

Jo Hughes, Side by Side Engagement and Involvement Officer said: “The team at Places for People Leisure have been active supporters of the Kidderminster DAA, and its campaign to make Kidderminster a Dementia Friendly Town, since the formation of the group in May 2016.

“The opening of the new Wyre Forest Leisure Centre facilities is providing additional opportunities for the Kidderminster DAA to work in partnership with Places for People to help ensure that the new Centre is a ‘Dementia Friendly’ and ‘accessible’ resource for the community, helping to make a 'real difference' to local people affected by dementia.”

Melissa Bettis, Health & Wellbeing Manager said: “Jo and the team behind Kidderminster DAA have been fantastic, the staff training on site has been well received and enjoyed by all.

“We are proud to be a part of this local campaign and we will continue to strive to help make Kidderminster a more Dementia Friendly Town.”
