A SELL-out charity lunch in Wyre Forest raised almost £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The district‘s fundraising committee held the popular annual event at The Granary Restaurant, Shenstone, on Tuesday (May 16), attended by 159 supporters.
Guest speaker was Ben Willcox, professor of molecular immunology and director of the Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Centre at Birmingham University.
Committee chairman Peter Tomlinson said: “The professor enthralled the audience with news of extraordinary breakthroughs which are taking place on a regular basis as we learn how to use the body’s own immune system to destroy cancer cells.
“Yet again an immensely successful lunch with an inspirational speaker. Guests left knowing that never before have we been closer to beating cancer.”
The committee’s next fundraiser is a jazz night at St George’s Hall, Bewdley, on Friday July 28.
