A TALENTED seven-year-old from Wyre Forest will be representing Worcestershire in a national final this summer after coming out on top in a county schools chess competition.

Cameron Henry, from Bewdley, has won the Under 7 category at the 2017 Worcestershire Schools Chess Megafinal.

Cameron, who attends Kings Hawford School near Worcester, will now represent his school and the county in the contest’s second phase – the Gigafinal in Manchester in July where he will come up against other children from across Northern England.

Jim Turner, head teacher at Kings Hawford, said: “Everyone at the school is extremely proud that Cameron will be flying the school and county flag in Manchester this summer.

“He is a talented chess player who plays way beyond his years. He has had to play some tough games to make it this far and we look forward to him progressing even further.”
