A KIND-hearted Stourport primary school pupil completed a gruelling challenge and helped raise hundreds for a cancer charity.

St Bartholomew’s CE Primary School Year 3 pupil Ellie Wall ran £40km when she took part in Runstock, alongside her parents, at Boughton House in Kettering earlier this month.

And her sterling efforts saw her collect more than £200 for the Children with Cancer UK charity.

Runstock challenges people to complete as many laps of a 5km obstacle course as possible and Ellie completed eight – beating her personal best of six when she did it in 2016.

As well as raising much needed funds, Ellie also won the six-tonne age group, for which she was presented with a gift from the race mascot Splat.

Ellie said: “Runstock was really fun last year so I wanted to do it again and run further this time. I felt very proud of myself when I finished, but also very tired.”

Ellie’s Mum, Luan, said: “Ellie set herself the target of getting to 40km this year and amazed everyone by digging in and grinding out the miles to get there.

“Ellie felt strongly that she wanted to raise some funds for the charity if she possibly could. It seemed a great idea to get the school behind the project.

“Having the support of her peers and sponsorship money to raise really helped Ellie get through the last couple of hours of the event, when she was starting to struggle a little bit. We really could not be prouder of what she is achieving at such a young age.”

Ellie’s school was also impressed with her efforts and organised their own fun run, with 50 children taking part, to boost the fundraising effort for Children with Cancer UK.

Susan Helps, Head of St. Bartholomew’s School said: “Once Ellie had decided to dedicate her run to Children's Cancer UK she spoke to the whole school about her event and her hope that the children would support her.

“Her inspirational presentation led to the children in every class taking part in a charity Fun Run of the school field and as a result the children raised over £100 for the Charity.

“Many of the children, inspired by Ellie, exceeded their own personal best, running 6 and 8km over the afternoon. As a school we will be building on this with the introduction of the 'Run a mile' initiative in the autumn.”
