Gerald’s garden is sweet as Honey

8:49am Saturday 14th July 2007

FILM cameras have been rolling in a Kidderminster garden as final preparations are made to open it for the first time in the National Garden Scheme.

Television expert, Carol Klein, has been sharing her top tips with Gerald Majumdar, of Honeybrook Lane, ahead of the big day on Sunday, July 22.

A film crew has been capturing all the hard work during four visits to Honeybrook House Cottage since April and the footage will be shown in the BBC series, Open Gardens, in the autumn.

Mr Majumdar, a member of Kidderminster Horticultural Society, said: "It has been exciting, especially having Carol Klein in the garden.

"The series is about people opening their gardens to the public for the first time and shows them being assessed for the National Garden Scheme and getting ready to open."

He added: "Each garden has a part of it needing extra attention. We've got two big borders behind the cottage and she has been giving me advice on them."

Filming of Mr Majumdar putting the finishing touches to the two-acre garden took place on Saturday, July 7 and the BBC crew will return on Sunday to shoot the open day and interview visitors.

He said he was keeping his fingers crossed for sunshine, adding: "The rain is all right for growing things but it is not doing the flowers any good. It squashes them down and makes the plants very leggy.

"I am hoping we will get some good weather and a really good turnout of visitors so we can raise as much money as we can for the National Gardens Scheme."

Honeybrook House Cottage garden will be open from 11am until 5pm and refreshments will be available.

Mr Majumdar will be welcoming guests for a second time on Sunday, August 19. For further information, log on to www.cottagegarden.org.uk
