A SCHEME aimed at boosting trade is Kidderminster town centre has been backed by town councillors.

Members from all parties on Kidderminster Town Council agreed to support Wyre Forest District Council’s approval of Stage 1 of the Business Improvement District (BID).

They have also agreed to work with Wyre Forest District Council to successfully deliver the project.

BIDs are business-led partnerships that are created through a ballot process with the aim of delivering extra services for local traders.

The creation of a Kidderminster BID will now progress to Stage 2. The council said that, while there is a lot of consultation to be undertaken, they believe a BID would make a vital contribution to the future vibrancy of the town centre.

Councillor Nicky Gale, Mayor and Chairman of Kidderminster Town Council, said: “The BID is a fantastic opportunity for Kidderminster Town Centre to be revitalised and refreshed.

“Kidderminster Town Council is keen to support anything that will assist local businesses and we are all eagerly waiting to see how the BID develops.”

Councillor Sally Chambers, Chairman of the Finance and Overview Committee for Kidderminster Town Council added: “The economic regeneration of Kidderminster is top priority for the newly formed Town Council.

“We wholeheartedly support the BID Scheme and hope to mirror the success such schemes have had in places like Worcester City. With this in mind, we have high hopes that Stage 2 of the process will be successful.”
