BRITAIN is bracing itself for the first major storm of the autumn and the Midlands looks set to be in its path.

Storm Aileen has been tracking its way in from the Atlantic and the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for central England from 5pm today (Tuesday).

Heavy rain which may cause flooding and difficult driving conditions is being predicted from early evening while later, at around 8pm, gusts of between 50 and 60mph will hit the region.

People are being advised to expect journey times by road, rain and air to be longer and there is a chance of power cuts and damage to trees.

The yellow warnings are in place until Wednesday morning and the north Midlands will experience winds of up to 75mph and is subject to an amber Met Office warning until 6am.
