A STOURPORT school is celebrating having more than 100 pupils for the first time in its history.

With the new intake in September, there are now 102 pupils on the roll at Astley Primary School.

Six years ago, there were just 65 pupils in the school, which prompted concern from the community for the falling numbers.

Ali Reakes-Williams, headteacher, said: "This is a fantastic growth rate by anyone's standards and has been achieved by the hard work of a talented team of staff and governors alongside tremendous parent support.

"We pay tribute to our executive headteacher, Mr Stubbs, whose vision, expertise and dedication has been critical to Astley's success and growth over the last six years.

"We are delighted that so many families choose to send their children to Astley and proud that 100 per cent of parents in a recent Ofsted questionnaire said they would recommend the school to other parents."

The school will open its doors to the prospective parents and the wider community on Wednesday, October 11, between 5pm and 7pm, for their open evening event.
