RESIDENTS in Wyre Forest who have still not replied to a letter about registering to vote can expect a knock at the door from one of the district council's canvassers.

At the end of July, Wyre Forest District Council sent out letters to all households in the district, asking residents to check and confirm details that appear on the electoral register.

Since then, the council has sent reminder letters to more than 18,500 households which had not responded - with some households having been written to twice.

There are still around 8,000 households which have not replied and will be getting a knock on their door.

Ian Miller, electoral registration officer, said: "We have been urging people to respond as soon as possible and get on the electoral register.

"Anyone who wants to vote and have their say in elections must be registered.

"Residents are required by law to respond and register every year and they can face the risk of being fined up to £1,000 if they don't."

Mr Miller added: "Our canvassers will be visiting the homes of people who haven't responded from early next week.

"If they do come to your home, they will show identification and will be happy to help you complete the form."

Wyre Forest District Council elections will be held in May 2018.

Anyone who needs help to complete the form should call 01562 732928 or email electoral@wyreforestdc.gov.uk.
