A STOURPORT drug driver has been disqualified from driving for two years after he was caught at almost 15 times over the limit.

Ashley Lye, of Wesley Avenue, admitted to driving in Hampton Road, in Droitwich, at 2pm on July 28, while he was working for a local garage.

The 21-year-old was stopped by police – believing that he was driving with no insurance.

He was not charged with any insurance issues, but officers tested him for drug driving. He measured 741 ug/l of Benzoylecgonine, the main compound of cocaine, at Droitwich Police Station – with the legal limit being 50 ug/l.

Lye said that he believed the drugs were in his system from “a few days before”.

Harry Turner, chairman of the magistrates bench, said: “You could easily have been here on a very different charge.

“You could have hurt someone or even worse killed someone.”

Lye who said he was now fearing for his job, was disqualified from driving for two years, fined £100 and told to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and costs of £135 which his mother agreed to pay off for him in one lump sum.

Lye appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday (October 12).
