A KIDDERMINSTER supermarket has raised more than £14,000 for a cancer charity.

Staff at Sainsbury's, in Carpets Trades Way, have helped to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, as part of the store's Charity of the Year scheme.

The Kidderminster store's year-long fundraising helped raise £14,027 for the charity with second hand book sales, bucket collections and a 'Night of Musical Fun' organised by staff.

Sarah Diston, regional fundraising manager for Macmillan in Worcestershire, said: "We would like to thank the customers and colleagues at Sainsbury's for all their support and generosity over the past year.

"I would also like to say thank you to our wonderful volunteer Barrie Key. Barrie has given so much of his spare time to volunteer at Sainsbury's, on behalf of Macmillan.

"The money raised will make such a difference to people living with and affected by cancer. We rely on donations and we are extremely grateful to Sainsbury's, their staff and customers.

"What they have achieved in 12 months is amazing."
