FILM lovers in Stourport are enjoying being able to go the movies in their own town again through a monthly event.

Areley Kings Village Hall has announced its latest timetable of movies that will be shown on their Film Nights during the next three months.

The event has been running for a few months and organisers say audience numbers are growing and it is becoming an established part of the town’s social calendar.

They originally tried to get the initiative off the ground last year but didn’t work but there are higher hopes this time around.

Rob Fowler, from the Hall, said: “The monthly Film Nights at Areley Kings Village Hall now becoming firmly established with audience numbers of between 40 and 65.

“It’s a facility which we’ve been attempting to provide for some time as there are many local people who do not have access to their own transport, so an evening at the cinema has been out of the question.

“Our previous attempt to provide a cinema last year didn’t work but we believe that we now have the correct format with type of film and frequency, to be a success

“The Hall has invested in high-quality audio-visual equipment which provides excellent sound and picture quality, and although we hope the audience numbers will increase we want to ensure that everyone can enjoy the experience in comfortable surroundings.”

On Friday (November 17), British comedy Golden Years Grand Theft Auto will be show at the Hall. This will be followed by Christmas Classic It’s a Wonderful Life on December 15 and Sunshine on Leigh on January 20.

They have previously shown War Horse, Lion, Florence Foster Jenkins and What I Did on my Holiday and members of the audience are invited to recommend films.

Tickets cost £5 and there is also a licenced bar, with ice-creams and snacks also available.
