DELIGHTED members of a brass band from Stourport are celebrating after bringing home two trophies in music competitions.

October proved to be a remarkable month for Stourport-on-Severn brass band after impressing judges with 20 minute programmes.

At the Bolsover Festival of Brass, held in Derbyshire on October 1, the band performed in both the second and third sections of the contest. They were rewarded with a third place for the second section.

And on October 28, the band performed the same programme in the second and third sections of the Wychavon Festival of Brass. This earned them second prize in the third section.

Oliver Wilson, musical director, said: “The band has had one of its busiest years yet! It is a good confident builder and the band love challenges.

“The programme wasn’t easy, but the players had practised hard and everyone put all their efforts into the performances.

“Winning a trophy at the Bolsover Festival was a great success and then, to go on and win a trophy from Wychavon Festival too really is the icing on the cake. We’ve had a tremendous month and year – and we look forward to 2018.”
