KIDDERMINSTER'S Samurai Judo Club took a dozen medals including three golds at their open Orange Belt and Under Championships for juniors.

Around 25 clubs were represented at the event, which took place at the club's Zortech Avenue headquarters.

The event was split into beginner grades (red belts) and then intermediates (yellow and orange belts).

In the boys red belts, Isaac Sobolewski took a knock in his first contest but shrugged it off to win three contests, all by maximum points, to take the gold medal.

Edward Martin, in the weight category below that, added a further bronze.

Joe Blanchfield, Scott Hulbert and Leo Lloyd-Williams were all in the same category, Joe just edged ahead of Scott into silver medal position, with Scott taking the one bronze and Leo the other.

The boys yellow and orange belt section saw some very good judo. Harrison Flello was the first Samurai player to compete and just missed out on a medal, finishing fifth.

In the next category the club had Mateo Allen and Dillon Walker. Mateo finished seventh while Dillon collected three maximum point wins saw him into the semi-final where he took just six seconds to throw a Leicestershire player for maximum points wins.

This put him into the final against a Kettering player, but Dillon dominated the contest, got a score up from a throw and then finished the contest on the ground for his fifth maximum point win out of five contests on the day and the gold medal.

James Harrison very nearly made it two consecutive golds in the next category. The British Minors champion reached the final with some excellent wins but was then caught by a very good throw by a much older player and had to settle for silver. Evan Turner had several good wins to secure the bronze in the same category.

In the girls yellow and orange belts, Lola Grosvenor took a bronze and Meghann O’Sullivan a silver with some good work. Lily Deeming-Lane also showed determination to bounce back from an early setback and take silver, but the girls star was Rhea Turner, who won all four of her contests by maximum points to take the gold.
