A GENEROUS donation from Bewdley Rotary Club will give two young carers a place at next year's Young Carers Festival.

The Bewdley Rotary Club donated £200 to Worcestershire Young Carers, a project at Youth Support Services, that supports children and young people aged between seven and 25, who help to look after a parent, guardian or sibling within their home, who is ill or has a disability.

The kind-hearted donation followed the annual National Rotary meeting where Bewdley president, David Rees, heard personal testimony from three young carers.

Mr Rees said: "We are delighted to be able to support young carers in Worcestershire.

"We hope this donation helps to provide a new experience and plenty of fun for two young carers, as they attend the annual Young Carers Festival."

Neil Phillips, senior project coordinator at YSS, who oversees the Worcestershire Young Carers project, added: "We are really grateful to everyone at Bewdley Rotary Club for choosing to provide funding for two young carers to attend the Young Carers Festival.

"This is a really important event for our young carers, providing them with a chance to have some fun and have a break from their caring roles, whilst having the opportunity to mix with people who are going through similar situations."

The annual Young Carers Festival will take place between June 29, and July 1, 2018 at YMCA Fairthorne Manor, in Hampshire, and will see more than 1,800 young carers come together to relax, have fun, socialise and have their voices heard about issues that affect them.

Worcestershire Young Carers is a project funded by Worcestershire County Council and provides support to more than 400 young and young adult carers in the county every year.
