MORE than 1,000 less people in Wyre Forest signed up to a register of electors than last year.

A total of 77,231 electors are listed in the newly published document by Wyre Forest District Council.

This represents a decrease of 1,233 since the register was compiled in December 2016.

In July, Wyre Forest District Council posted forms to register to vote to all residential letterboxes in the district.

In the following months the authority also sent out reminder letters and canvassers called at homes where a form had not been returned to the council. Messages reminding people to register to vote were also posted on social media.

Electoral Registration Officer, Ian Miller, said: “The Elections Team has worked hard to make sure as many people as possible are on the register.

“While the register has now been published we are still encouraging people to make sure they are registered for future elections.

“There will be Wyre Forest District Council elections next May. It is now really easy to register because it can be done online.”

Anyone living in Wyre Forest who is aged 18 or has moved into the area and is not currently included in the published Register of Electors can register by visiting www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
